This past week was not at all what I had expected... it was better. I got a call Monday morning asking if I could step in as a counselor for junior youth camp which was starting on Tuesday. They had a lot of kids registering at the last minute and were a bit understaffed. So I went and had a great time working at the camp. There were so many opportunities to talk with my campers, pray with them, have devotions together and talk about the things going on in their lives. I'm really thankful for the unexpected opportunity that I had there.
I came back and pretty much jumped right in to Holiday Bible Club preparation. I'm so so thankful for all the times that I've been involved with VBS and HBC in the past, and for the opportunities that I've had to see Jim and Diane, Toni and Arlene and so many others run great programs which I have learned from. If not for those experiences I would be feeling totally lost right now (and as it is, I'm still feeling a little overwhelmed). I was originally expecting to just be teaching one of the classes and maybe helping with the skits, but due to some personnel changes I've picked up a lot more responsibilites. I'm the co-director, MC, skit coordinator and now teaching 3 grades instead of 2. So I'm not sure how it will all work out but I'm feeling pretty confident that it will, and I can honestly say that I'm excited to see how God takes care of everything- I know that he works best when we are at our weakest.
My prayer, more than anything, is that through this HBC we will be able to reach some of the families of the kids who come and that we will see them get really connected with the church.-I truly believe that that would be the greatest long term benefit that could come as a result of this ministry.
So tomorrow morning, Lord willing, we will have 150-200 kids at HBC, and we will love them as much as we can, praying all the while that God blesses our efforts and accomplishes great things.
So ready or not... here we go!

Ben! God will work mightily through you! just do what you do best; love those kids by loving God! prayers for you! and a hug!
Very excited to hear about your busy week last week. I'm praying that the Lord will continue to bring new opportunities for ministries and relationships to you! We will be praying for you and the kids at HBC this week!
Lynne told us about your unexpected ministry opportunities with HBC this week. We are SO excited about it, and we know you'll do great! Please greet everyone there for us and let them know that we are praying all of you through this week.
This picture puts a smile on my face, Ben....how young children love you. I am remember the same look on some of the Awana boys as they talked with you, and even on my Micah's face. How blessed I believe my son is to know you...a young man pursuing God's heart for people.
It is with great pleasure and honor that we will be lifting you in prayer this week. May you be a "Highway of Holiness" (as Blackaby says) that God may cross over to touch the lives of children in South Africa this week.
Trusting in our trustworthy God!
Dawn and family
